What You Need To Know When You’re Replacing Your Job With A Business! (The Leading Ladies Of Influence Podcast | Listening Party Episodes)
Sometimes we know for a fact that our product or service is valuable.
If people bought that product or service their lives would improve in one way or another.
Yet… we are afraid to charge what our products or services are really worth.
Listen, you can’t build a business or your bank account by putting in hours of work doing people favors.
You are not the dollar tree. Your products and services took you time to create. You need to be getting paid for your work.
WHAT IS THIS EPISODE ABOUT?
When it comes to pricing, sometimes we have these kinds of thoughts in our head:
“I can’t charge $200 for a sewing machine on CRAIGSLIST – no one on there has $200 for an item.”
“Oh man, no one is writing to me about my sewing machine on Craigslist, so I should lower my price.”
“MAN! It’s 3 weeks later, no one wants my discount either… maybe I should just give my sewing machine away for free.”
In this example, I’m talking about thoughts you might have if you were selling something on Craigslist, but for those of you who are trying to start or build your online business – I’m sure you’ve had similar thoughts about your own products or services.
Honestly, I’ve offered my services for dirt cheap on Facebook because I thought things like:
“Let me do them a favor.”
“They can’t afford it, let me lower my price.”
“They need my help, but they don’t have any money right now. Let me help. Let me give it away for free.”
I’ve had those thoughts, and in the past, I would drop my prices.
Listen, you can’t build a business or your bank account by putting in hours of work doing people favors!
You and I are not the dollar tree.
Your products and services – my products and services – took time to create!
You need to be getting paid for your work.
If you’re having trouble charging what your services and products are really worth, you should practice saying that sentence to people too.
Say, “You know, it takes A LOT of work to do what I do, so I have learned to charge well for my time.”
They can either appreciate your words or not. And that’s that.
But, as for you – DO NOT DROP your price.
DO NOT discount anything.
DO NOT waver.
Let them try to knock on someone else’s door to get a deal.
But, I’ll tell you what – there was SOMETHING that they liked about you that made them want to work with you in the first place. And THAT ALONE should tell you that your product or service is worth it!
